I'm Clearly Pissed

I'm probably going to get hell for this, but at this point I don't care.

When I became part of the paleo-community online, I was introduced to an amazing experience where my early childhood love of prehistoric life was practically rewarded. Here was a group of fellow peoples (many of them actual working paleontologists!) who appreciated science and the wonders of the natural world. What a joy it is to wake up every day, check Facebook or Twitter, and see the newest discoveries - shared without media-bias or any sensationalist bullshit. Everything is told as it is (as it should be) by rational, honest people. It's great, and I love it. But there's a dark-side to everything, and just when I thought I was in for some real honest paleontology... I was introduced to the cranks, the arrogant, and the downright insane. I guess dinosaurs and other fossil reptiles have fans from all demographics, and there's a group of people that just want to watch everything we've built up crumble to the ground. Now... natural skepticism of scientific claims is quite alright, it's how we get about discussing and solving real problems. But claiming that you know all the right answers and think everyone (LITERALLY EVERYONE) is wrong regardless of the evidence... makes you an asshole. A big, stinky asshole that does nothing but shit out worthless chunks of nonsense and annoy people. I usually don't try to associate with these people, but at this point I've had enough. I've heard too many stories, seen too many terrible blog posts, and watched as honest, dignified paleontologists resort to dealing with the mess left by these individuals - when there's real work to do. Now I'm not going to name anyone... but it should be clear as to whom I'm talking about. It's time you faced up to reality and started doing real science. Actually listen to those who you're apparently opposed to and try to learn something. Get off this self-centered high and be humble for fuck's sake! Either you bring real science and honest discussion to the table or just do the world a favor and crawl back under that disgusting rock you came from. Ugh.
