TetZoo Time! - Episode 2 (Comic 3/6) by classicalguy TetZoo Time! - Episode 2 (Comic 3/6) by classicalguy
The third part of the second episode of TetZoo Time! is finally here! Summer Vacation has arrived and now I don't have any major projects to worry about! That means more TetZoo Time!

Fun things to note:
1 - First comic appearance of the ruler of the Tetrapods, Princess Tetrapod. She's an Azhdarchid Pterosaur who resides in the capital of the Tetrapod Kingdom, TetZoo Towers.
2 Chris Bennett's mention goes towards a study that he worked on that may suggest pterosaurs should be 'down-leveled' in the archosaur family tree.
3 Lots of interesting pterosaur species to spot!
4As for that mysterious shadow... yeah, you can pretty much bet who that is. ;)

He's just a discreet background character - visitors of the Rio Pterosaur conference are both pterosaurs and human scientists

Do you happen to have a link towards Mr. Bennett's study, or at least more info regarding it? This "downgrading" of the pterosaurs is pretty fascinating-sounding.

I can't seem to find the study as of now, but you can read about Chris Bennett's real presentation at the Rio Pterosaur Symposium on the TetZoo Article: blogs.scientificamerican.com/t…

Hmmm...let's see if I'm up to the challenge of naming the non-princess pterosaurs, shall we Devilish ?

1. Pteranodon Sternbergi/"Geosternbergia" (I really hate its new name Steaming Mad!)
2. Pterodaustro
3. Nemicolopterus(?)
4. Istiodactylus(?)
5. Tapejara
6. Dimorphodon
7. Thalassodromeus(?) (it's harder to tell 'cause most of it is off panel)
8. Dsungaripterus
Did I get it right or am I way off?

Also, quick question: Did you make Princess Tetrapod a pterosaur because the Ice King spoof is based off of David Peters and the Ice King's thing is kidnapping princesses? If so, then I think that's very clever :D

You're close! Except for no. 3 - it's Guidraco. And you're right about Thalassodromeus & Istiodactylus.

As for why Princess Tetrapod is a pterosaur... well the Ice King spoof is certainly part of it. More crucially, azhdarchid pterosaurs are one of the many TetZoo 'mascots' - along with babirusas, tapirs, cassowaries, and the like. So it was natural that the princess of the tetrapods should be one.

Ah, right. I haven't seen much Guidraco ^^;.

I figured that much, too. I have witnessed articles from TetZoo, and these comics are making me think I should check it out some more...

I definitely recommend the Tetrapod Zoology blog (as well as podcast). It's really a wonderful thing we have in this world, and it has opened (for me) a whole new curiosity towards natural history.
